Skjoldungen Fjord

Finally in Greenland! We spent the morning moored in Skjoldungen Fjord next to a small glacier. Sheila went for a Zodiac cruise, while Lars opted to stay on the ship and take pics from there.  Some folks went kayaking.  Then we cruised back out the fjord and out to sea a bit.  This was our only stop in East Greenland. Pretty much nothing to say here that the pics won't say better!

(Please note: photographing ice and snow in bright sun or even bright overcast is....tricky.  Instant over-exposure. We've tweaked some as much as we can--please forgive our clumsy attempts at photo editing!)

Sheila's first:

"River Beauties"--a dwarf relative of fireweed

More flowers...

Doug pulled a chunk of ice up for us to see, and for the watercolor class to use as water

Kayaking is an option that we are opting out of!

And now Lars' view from the ship:

This is one of Lars' shots from the ship.
While we were out in the Zodiac, a big chunk peeled off the right-hand edge, almost into the Zodiac carrying 2 scientists who are there to study what causes pieces to break off!
They were very excited when they got back to the ship.
