Disko Bay (aka Icebergs 2)
We were supposed to be in Ilulissat today, but yesterday evening the staff learned that 2 larger cruise ships were going to be in town, so we swapped plans and will go there tomorrow instead. So today was spent cruising Disko Bay, which has a large supply of large icebergs. There were some hiking options, all with more difficulty than we felt comfortable with, and also some Zodiac cruising, which was less appealing at 39F.
So we spent some time on the blog, and are actually caught up! We'll be posting this the day after we did the thing....which in our case was wander the ship and photograph icebergs and some spectacular cliffs.
Some of these icebergs are about half the size of our ship! And that's only 10% of the total mass, as 90% is under water. This is part of what makes them dangerous, as they don't always go straight down and can have a considerable shelf sticking out under the water.
